Disclosed herein is a method and a system for processing digital images that reduces the computational complexity in determination of optimal threshold for image segmentation. The proposed system achieves multi-level thresholding by combining Fuzzy Entropy Type II (FE-TII) technique 118 with a meta-heuristics technique named Marine Predators technique (MPT) 120. The optimal thresholds of image are achieved by increasing the value of entropy to the maximum by using FE-TII 118 and the selection of the optimal value of thresholds is achieved by the MPT 120. Hence, the hybridization of these two individual techniques helps in achieving and selecting optimal threshold for image segmentation that not only consumes less time but also reduces computational complexity.
