In last two decades farming of fish has gained immense popularity and importance because of high profitability and employment generation. The aquaculture production in the region has been hampered by losses of fish to diseases and poor husbandry practices. In J&K, the serious bacterial pathogens of aquatic animals are Aeromonas hydrophila, A. salmonicida and Pseudomonas species. Due to its pathogenic capacity and high mortality rates, motile aeromonas can kill 80–100% of fish within 1-2 weeks, resulting in significant economic losses (Zdanowicz et al., 2020). Hemorrhagic septicaemia, a bacterial infection brought on by Aeromonas hydrophila, is one of the factors contributing to significant financial losses in fish farms throughout Jammu & Kashmir (Shah et al., 2022). To overcome this issue current work plans to produce a rapid farmer friendly test strip based on lateral flow immunoassay for on farm diagnosis of Aeromonas hydrophila, which will enable fish farmers, fish pathologists and veterinarians in quick diagnosis of disease. The lateral flow immunoassay strip developed under this project will be highly beneficial to the fish farming community as, this will enable the fish farmer to diagnosis the bacterial diseases at farm level. Hence, will save time and money of a fish farmer.
