The power system protection is an inseparable part of power systems as this system reduces the occurrence of failures and hence damage to the property in general and equipment in particular. The power system protection is needed at various levels and in different ways catering to the needs depending on the volume of voltage and currents in the device. One of the devices normally needed at low and medium level electrical systems is the MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) that works on principle of mechanical charging and electromagnetic triggering. MCB’S are an important part of power system protection in low level commercial and household usage. Although they are designed for both short circuit and overload protection, but they have been found to work well with short circuit protection and deemed very inefficient in case of overload protection. The main problem being the saturation of the electromagnetic coil inside relay as overload protection comes out to be gradual with time. So, there is a need to develop a low-cost miniature circuit breaker that will be highly efficient for both short circuit and Overload protection application. Although attempts have to solve the problem, but most of technical outputs are either very costly or very complex. The proposed Solution is based around the processor based precise reading of the current values using magnetic hall effect sensors and actuating the trip through electromagnetic means. Lot of care has been taken to provide high efficiency, Reliability and integrity of components, after the implementation the product can be used at various levels and can replace native circuit breakers.
