A. Innovation : Kitchen Waste Composting Dust Bin B. Problem Statement of Kitchen Waste Highlighting issues related to Kitchen waste disposal 1. Excessive Waste Generation: Kitchen Produce a significant amount of waste including food scrapes, packing materials and disposable items, leading to environmental concerns. 2. Environmental Impact Improper disposal of kitchen waste , such as food waste ending up in land fills, contributes to green house gas emission, soil pollution and other environmental pollution 3. Health and Hygiene Poorly managed kitchen waste can attack pests, create unpleasant odour and pose health risks due to harmful micro-organisms 4. Lack of Sustainable Practices: Many households are not implementing sustainable practices, such as composting of organic waste 5. Community and Municipal strains Local waste management system and land fills may be over whelmed by the volume of kitchen waste, leading to increased cost and environmental pressure. C. Solution Overview Flow Chart showing Composting process of Kitchen waste composting bins. 1. Use Twin Composting bin for composting 2. Spread 1cm layer of Waste decomposing bacteria at the bottom of the bin 3. Add 3 inches of waste to the bin 4. Spread Waste decomposing bacteria evenly on the top 5. Now again add 3 inches of waste 6. Spread Waste decomposing bacteria again 7. Check and drain the leachate every 3rd day from the tap provided in the bottom tank 8. Just repeat the process till the bins fills up 9. Leave the first bin for composting by converting it with layers of microbes 10. Start the above process in second bin 11. Both bins can be used alternatively and rich manure is collected D.Features of Composting Bin 1. Size of the composting bins is 25, 50 and 120 litres, depending upon the waste generated per household per day for family of about 4 to 15 members. 2. The composting bin must possess an airtight design, incorporating a bottom tap for lechate drainage. Additionally it should be equipped with an internal vent to facilitate optimal air circulation, removing excess moisture, regulating temperature and maintaining air quality. 3. Waste decomposing microbes which act as decomposers which helps in composting 4. One set of composter will digest 1 to 6 liters of waste per day 5. Throughout the composting process, the compost tea sucessfully collected upto 5 to 15 Ltrs and the compost collected upto 50 kgs 6. Duration of Composting 45 days E. Benefits of kitchen waste composting bin a. Economic, Hassle-free and easy to use b. Completely safe c Odour free and no Sludge d No electrical and Mechanical energy used e Composting is completed within 45 days f Natural recycling of kitchen waste g Avoid landfills and prevents pollution , reduces Global warming and decreases green house gas emission h Minimum space occupancy and can be installed in setback spaces F. Benefit of Kitchen waste Compost A Natural Organic Manure and produces organic foods B. Replaces Petro chemical fertilizers C Produce strong Healthier roots D Controls soil erosion when applied to soil E Produces longer productivity of crops F Multiplies micro-organisms in soil G Can be used as potting soil instead of conventional soil H Improves soil fertility, nutrient content, increases water retention, suppress plant diseases and boosts soil tilt. G. Benefit of Kitchen waste Compost Tea. A Acts as pest control / Insecticide B. Provides plenty of nutrients for the plants that are easily absorbed straight through the plant roots C Soil Enrichment D Disease Suppressor E Improves soil structure F Helps in seed germination which can be used to soak seed before sowing G Act as a foliar spray for quick nutrient absorption H Reduces the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides promoting sustainable environmental benefit H. Type of Kitchen waste which can be composted 1.Vegetable peels 2.Cooked food 3.Fruit peels and seeds 4.Egg shells 5.Flowers 6.Garden waste 7.Fallen leaves 8. Twigs etc I. The unique selling proposition of kitchen waste composting bin encompass several factors which include: 1. Odour Control Kitchen waste composting bin is designed to effectively control odour, ensuring a pleasant kitchen environment. 2. Compact Design A Space-saving and aesthetically pleasing design that perfectly fits into kitchen settings 3. Quick Decomposition Accelerated decomposition technology that transforms kitchen waste into usable compost faster than traditional methods 4. Easy Maintenance User- Friendly features like air tight seals, simple cleaning process 5. Sustainability Emphasis on environmentally friendly materials and sustainable production practices 6. Versatility Ability to handle a wide range of kitchen waste, from food scrapes to organic materials
